All of us have a running soundtrack in our heads.
It might be fight songs, cry songs or goodbye songs.
It might be words of encouragement, words of discouragement.
It might be phrases that motivate you. It might be phrases that give you permission to fail. It might be phrases of who to blame if things don’t go your way.
But we all have a running soundtrack in our head that we dance through life playing.
Our recent conversation with bestselling author Jon Acuff about his new book, “Soundtracks: The Surprising Solution to Overthinking,” got me thinking about what plays in the minds of those most successful people in the world.
Here are 3 ideas:
Don’t Stop Believing
There are two types of people in the world—those who love Journey and those who are liars. And as much as we love this song, many successful people have this running through their minds. They truly believe that they can accomplish anything they set their minds on.
The Gambler
You know the song better by the chorus. “You’ve got to know when to hold ’em. Know when to fold ’em. Know when to walk away. Know when to run.” As much as we “keep believing.” Successful people know when it’s time to move on. Some things just don’t work. At some point, you have to pull “Crystal Pepsi” from the shelves.
God Bless the Broken Road
We all have moments we regret. We all have moments where life happened to us, or people happened to us. But God never wastes a hurt. God can move us forward to get us exactly where we need to be. As Joseph said in the Bible to his brothers who sold him into slavery, “What you meant for evil, God used as good.” Everything may not happen for a reason, but everything can be redeemed.
