Everyone has opinions, and as a Pastor, I have the pleasure of hearing a lot of them, particularly regarding my teaching style.
You’re not deep enough.
You talk too much sports.
We want more Bible.
We want less Bible.
How about some Greek or Hebrew.
I wish you would __________________. (You can fill in the blank)
For a long time, I didn’t know what to do with that feedback. So I broke how I preach. Or, in other words, I broke myself trying to be someone else. Emulating what I thought people wanted, I looked at the success of other pastors and incorporated their style into what I did. It took me a while to learn the lessons I want to share with you on this episode of How I Broke This.

Thank you for being so honest and forthwith. I really appreciate listening to every Sunday talk.
Recently I brought my grandson to the Simi Valley campus. He is a recovering drug addict and has been
in out of recovery for many years. I had prayed about his situation with the Lord many times and waited patiently for a response. It happened on Sunday a few weeks ago when he sat with me and listened to Benji Kelley and was instantly gripped by his past and wanted to learn more. I purchased the book for him and he is living with me and my wife now. I also introduced him to others in our serving team and he found them to be a blessing in his trials and wanted to meet more of our church family. Thank you for creating such an openly expressive family that really wants to invite people to come on in and find and follow Jesus.
I enjoyed the podcast. It is a reminder to be myself and recognize that God has crafted me for His purpose. I also am thankful for how God is using RLC.
I love your whimsy and humor when teaching biblical truths. I find that the simplicity in your messages gives me a better understanding of God’s word, and helps make the connection between Scripture and my daily life. Thank you Rusty.
