Rusty sits down with Carey Nieuwhof to discuss his new book, “Didn’t See It Coming” and the top three leadership tips he’s learned over the course of his career.
Carey Nieuwhof is a former lawyer and founding pastor of Connexus Church. He’s the author of several best-selling books and speaks to leaders around the world about leadership, change and personal growth.
Listened to and watched Carey’s info and always get something out of it! Certainly not a knock on his excellent insights and info regarding servant-leadership but still am not hearing hardly anything in today’s church as to the Biblical mandate that real relational servant-leadership begins in the marriage and home? Just curious as to why you think that is so adamantly avoided, rejected or minimized?
When I’m sharing in my conferences, series, etc., I ask 4 questions: 1) How many of you desire to be a leader in Christ’s Kingdom? To which nearly everyone raises their hand. 2) Where do you think God is going to find those to lead in His Kingdom? To which a few will answer sheepishly, “From Christ’s Church?” And I say, “Yes, absolutely!” 3) Where does His Word tell us that we are to identify and develop leaders for His Church? Very few, if any, will suggest, “From the home (marriage/family).” And I say “YES!” 1 Tim 3:4-5 states and questions clearly that “if one can’t servant-lead in his/her home then how can he/she servant-lead in God’s family?” 4) How many of you are prioritizing your relationships with your spouse and children so God can prepare you to lead in His Church and Kingdom?
Thanks again for a wonderful podcast and make it a great day in The Lord!
