Yes, Valentines day is over, but it is still February. So, it’s still the season of love. Right? And it’s still technically winter and we are all looking for that perfect date movie to stay in and watch. When you are dating, you watch anything… The Notebook, 10 Things I Hate about You, and even Bridget Jones. But when you are married for a few years you start to assert your limits. There’s only so much Nicholas Sparks and Hallmark a guy can take. In an effort to “help a brother out” here are a few movies that can pass as both an action movie and a chick flick:
Fast and Furious 6. Car chases, heists and explosions. Oh, and there’s a relationship in there too.
Inception. An amazing mind bender about invading people’s dreams that will keep you guessing the entire time. And Leonardo is in a relationship that doesn’t involve a ship going down.
The Dark Knight. Come on! It’s Batman and the Joker! Oh, and Batman is in love.
Ocean’s 11. Love the idea of robbing a Casino with 11 guys who are hilarious and gifted in one criminal way or another. And its all for a girl.
Remember the Titans. Granted, this movie is just about football. But most women think Denzel is hot so you can get away with it.
The Godfather. Ok, not a chick flick, but the greatest movie ever made.
These are just a few of mine… what are yours?
Did you really just write, “But most women think Denzel is hot so you can get away with it.” bwahahahahaha.
Walk the line
My hubby and I came up with a few:
1. Miss Congeniality–Sandra B. is hilarious and there is enough comedy, action & scantily clad babes to keep the male watchers engaged.
2. The Bourne identity pleases the whole crowd plus, hey, he has a relationship.
3. RED: Practically Perfect in every way
4. The entire Lord of the Rings Trilogy. With a story that great–it’s got it all.
5. Star Wars works–I mean, ya gotta admit there are some pretty good spArks between Han & Leah. Too bad their son turned out to be a bad egg.
6. Pride & Prejudice & Zimbies. My husband uttered the eternal words during a great fight scene, “I never want this movie to end!”
7. Ever After: It’s one of mom’s top 5 so it gets extra cred. There’s enough humor to keep everyone interested.
8. If you’ve never seen “What’s Up Doc,” with Barbara Streisand & Ryan O’Neil, you’ve missed one of the very best slapstick comedies of all time. Plus, it has THE best and most hilarious car chase of cinematic history. Oh yeah, and the two leads are very funny-romantic. Total crowd-pleaser.
9. Our whole family really enjoys “Notting Hill.” It’s way-romantic but also very Brit-comedy-at-it’s-finest.
10. Braveheart: The action meter is off the charts AND their rather short-lived romance is ultra-swooney. Just skip the tiny bit of skin during their woodland honeymoon.
There’s more where this came from but we’re supposed to be watching a movie together and this is killing our family time. (What kind of pastor ARE you???)
Out of Africa, Children of a lesser God, Mary Poppins, Saving Mr. Banks, Mrs. Doubtfire and 27 dresses
Although I love all the movies you listed, I have to say none of them qualify as chick flicks in my humble opinion…haha! My suggestions are The Princess Bride, Forrest Gump, Last of the Mohicans, A Knight’s Tale, Top Gun, The Legend of Tarzan, The Hungar Games, An Officer and a Gentleman, Divergent, Terminator…
Die Hard! Enough said.
