I’m excited to share this week’s episode with you.

Our guest is Kay Warren. She is an advocate, speaker & author. Kay also cofounded Saddleback Church with her husband, Rick. And she knows a thing or two about navigating difficult seasons while holding tightly to her faith. But it hasn’t always been easy. If you find yourself wondering how she’s done it, you’ll get to hear her talk about it on this episode of Leading Simple. Kay shares her insight on what it’s like to find yourself in someone else’s shadow. We also discuss dealing with mental health and abuse issues and what life has for her and Rick after Saddleback.

If you or someone you love is struggling with their mental health, you don’t have to go through this alone. Reach out to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline for help at 1-800-273-TALK (8255) to speak to someone immediately and confidentially.

About our Guest

Kay Warren, co-founder of Saddleback Church with her husband, Rick, is an international speaker, best-selling author, and Bible teacher who has a passion for inspiring and motivating others to make a difference with their lives.

After the death of her son, Matthew, who lived with serious mental illness for most of his life, she founded Saddleback’s Hope for Mental Health Initiative as a way to support individuals and family members of loved ones with mental illness and suicidal ideation. The Initiative also trains others in the faith community how to launch or expand existing mental health ministries.

Kay is a board member of the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention and is active in mental health/suicide prevention efforts in Orange County, CA.  Kay is the author of Sacred Privilege: Your Life and Ministry as a Pastor’s Wife, Choose Joy: Because Happiness Isn’t Enough, Say Yes to God: A Call to Courageous Surrender, and coauthor of Foundations, a popular systematic theology course used by churches worldwide. Her children are Amy and Josh, and Matthew (who is in heaven), and she has five grandchildren.
