Jesus’ time on this earth was long before Twitter… but he has some amazing tweets.  If he were able to post some of these, they would have gone viral, trending now, and whatever term is being used this week to describe a great post.

But by far one of the most “tweetable” was recorded by John early in Jesus’ ministry.  Jesus starts talking about how to get to God apart from perfection and the religious institution scoffed and the people leaned in.  Is this possible? Does God really love us as is rather than as we should be?

One night a man named Nicodemus, a member of the religious leaders, snuck into Jesus’ room and asked… Is this true?

Jesus responded this way:

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. “There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son. And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.”‭‭ John‬ ‭3:16-21‬ ‭(NLT‬‬)

There it is. Hashtag that. Mic drop. God loved. God gave. We believe. We receive.

This caused Nicodemus to pause and ask… is salvation really Jesus + nothing, or Jesus + something.  Is Jesus enough?

Today ask yourself… what is the something that you still feel you need to do to earn God’s love? Is it sobriety? Is it perfection? Is it 3 days without yelling at your kids? Or has Jesus come to accept you as is… and THEN make you as you should be?
