After the events we discussed a couple of days ago of Jesus clearing the temple, a variety of lessons are shared by Jesus.
He talks about marriage, mission, and urgency. As he talks about the end times, he shares this story:
32 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come. 34 It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch.
35 “Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. 36 If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. 37 What I say to you, I say to everyone: ‘Watch!'”
Mark 13:32-37
In other words, time is short, use it wisely. This is not a guy on the corner with the bullhorn yelling, “Turn or Burn!” this is Jesus telling us not to waste our lives.
Don’t live for comfort or the pursuit of stuff. Don’t climb a ladder only to realize it is up against the wrong wall. Live for Jesus. Share Jesus. Follow Jesus. And when he returns, he’ll say, “well done!!”
Our Prayer: God, would you help us to live for you, to share you with others, and give us guidance on how to follow you?
